Noteleaf - Frequently Asked Questions

How does Noteleaf work?

Noteleaf makes sure you’re always prepared for your meeting.

1. You just enter events into Google Calendar as you normally would (ie: “3pm Coffee with Jon”).

2. Noteleaf reads your calendar, figures out who “Jon” is and adds Jon’s LinkedIn information into the “Description” field of the Google Calendar event automatically.

3. 10 minutes before your meeting, Noteleaf sends you a text message with a link to a full mobile web profile of the person you’re about to meet.

Please visit the How It Works page for more information.

Which phones does Noteleaf work with?

Noteleaf is a mobile web app that works on iPhone, Android and most Blackberry phones. We use SMS text messages to send notifications that link to a mobile-optimized web page.

Do you support SMS notifications to mobile phones outside of the US & Canada?

No, not at this time. Currently we are not able to send text messages outside of the US and Canada.

However, even if you don't have a US/Canadian phone, you can still use Noteleaf! Just connect your Google and LinkedIn accounts and leave the last step of the setup process blank. Noteleaf will enhance your calendar events, putting people information into the 'Description' field of the 'Event Details' in Google Calendar. You can then setup your Google Calendar notifications and get much of the same effect as you would with the SMS activated.

Do I need to download an app from the App Store?

No. Noteleaf does not require any app download. Just click the Sign Up button on Noteleaf.com to get started. Once you finish signing up, Noteleaf starts adding information to your Google Calendar and sends a text message that links to a mobile web profile right before your meeting, so there’s nothing to download.

Which calendars does Noteleaf work with?

Only Google Calendar, at the moment. We support Google Calendar in both Gmail and Google Apps. Once you sign up you will be asked to authenticate your Google account so that Noteleaf can start adding useful information about who you’re going to be meeting to your calendar.

Do I have to have a LinkedIn account to use Noteleaf?

Yes, we use LinkedIn to provide professional information about who you’re going to be meeting with. You will be asked to connect to your LinkedIn account during the sign-up process.

How does the process of connecting Noteleaf to my Google and LinkedIn accounts work?

We use the standard Google and LinkedIn APIs endorsed by each respective company and use OAuth (a secure standard) to connect Noteleaf to your accounts. The authentication process is handled through the Google and LinkedIn servers, so Noteleaf never sees or stores your Google or LinkedIn passwords. You can turn off Noteleaf’s connection to your Google and/or LinkedIn accounts any time by visiting the Noteleaf settings page and disconnecting Noteleaf from Google and LinkedIn.

Do you have a privacy policy?

We take your privacy extremely seriously. We promise to respect your privacy, never sell or rent info to marketers and do right by you, the user. You can read our full privacy policy here

What information do I need enter into Google Calendar so that Noteleaf recognizes the person I’m meeting?

You just type the person’s name somewhere in the event title -- for instance, “Meet with Susan Thompson”. The Noteleaf algorithm can figure out who Susan Thompson is with a high degree of accuracy (and we’re working to improve the accuracy everyday). Even if you only enter a first name in an event, such as “Meet with Susan”, Noteleaf is able to figure out which Susan you are talking about -- in most cases, even if you know more than one Susan.

What can I do to improve the name recognition accuracy of Noteleaf?

In most cases, Noteleaf is able to take an event title like “Lunch with Bob” and figure out that the Bob you’re talking about is actually Bob J. Smith, VP of Engineering at ABC123 Incorporated (even if you know multiple people named Bob!). We get the person right most of the time, but sometimes, we just don’t have enough information to identify the correct individual.

Although we are working to make improvements to our name recognition everyday, there are a few things you can do the make Noteleaf better and more accurate at guessing the correct person: (1) Use the person’s full name in your Google Calendar event title, (2) connect with more people in your industry on LinkedIn -- the more connections you have on LinkedIn the more accurate our algorithm is and (3) use the “Wrong Person” button on the Noteleaf mobile profile to correct Noteleaf if it pulls up the wrong person.

I no longer want to receive text message alerts before my meetings from Noteleaf. How do I turn them off?

To disable text message notifications, just visit the Settings page and click “Disable Text Message Notifications”.

I no longer want Noteleaf to add people information to my Google Calendar event descriptions. How do I turn it off?

To disable text message notifications, just visit the Settings page and click “Disable Text Message Notifications”. Please note that by disconnecting Google (or LinkedIn) Noteleaf will no longer be able to function, so you will no longer receive mobile profiles of who you’re going to meet either.

Do I have to change my behavior or remember to do anything differently to get value from Noteleaf?

No. Just keep adding events to your Google Calendar as you normally would (“Meet with Janet at University Cafe”), and Noteleaf does the rest. Noteleaf automatically adds information to the “Description” field of the Google Calendar event and sends you an text message right before your meeting with a full profile for the person you’re about to meet.
